Coming Home
Those who contemplate the beauty of the earth find reserves of strength that will endure as long as life lasts. —Rachel Carson
The Heart Behind
Blue Goose Lodge
The anxiety of surviving through difficult times can lead to a sense of hopelessness and despair. Being given the opportunity for reflection and a break from daily life, especially in a calming and supportive environment, can help to replenish body and mind and lead to coping strategies that can be carried back to the real world.
However, those in the greatest need of respite are often the least able to break away. With support and generosity from our applicant sponsors, Blue Goose award recipients are afforded the opportunity for pause, without the normal financial expense, offering the many benefits of nature’s healing powers.
Our Mission
The Blue Goose Lodge provides hope for the future by allowing those facing significant challenges to replenish mind and body in a calming natural setting.
More Than a House
Situated on 80 acres of unpopulated mountain property and surrounded by National Forest lands, the Blue Goose Lodge is remote enough to offer the sense of wonder and grandeur which are unique to the natural world, but is still near enough to provide a full range of first-rate amenities and activities. This luxurious 5 bedroom/4 bath home sleeps 16. With a spacious great room, massive dining table, and fully-stocked kitchen, it provides the space needed to spend time together or relax on your own. Offering games for adults and children alike, an expansive wrap-around porch, and beautiful views from every window, this well-appointed, yet cozy home, is the perfect place to return following a day of adventure.
Our History
Dan Mortensen is the founder of Blue Goose Lodge. He grew up in these mountains, fishing and hiking throughout the southern Colorado wilderness. Fostered through decades fishing with his father, Corky Mortensen, Dan has developed a special affinity to nature, with both the serenity and sense of adventure that it can bring to life. In these mountains, he found peace and tranquility no matter what troubles he faced, and it was in these moments and in this natural setting that he learned what is truly important in life. Building from his own experiences, Dan and his wife Jessica now want other families who are struggling to have the same opportunity to build memories and possibly change the course of their lives. After decades of looking, their family finally found the perfect location to make his dream a reality. Thus was formed the Blue Goose Lodge.
